CURRENTLY: New York City, NY

A Look Back

More in the Uncategorized

Yesterday I realized the halfway point on my trip is quickly approaching, the big day 40. So, I wanted to dig up some thoughts I had prior to my departure. The following paragraph is taken from an email conversation I had in late August with a person who contacted me through this website.

“I absolutely can’t wait to get on the road. I find myself salivating at the thought of a day trip, at the sight of a suitcase, or any form of spontaneity. My life here in the New York City has been good to me - secure, comparatively interesting, and comfortable. I’ve tested out the life of a college educated mid 20-something with a job, and eh, it’s pretty nice. I mean, I work in Rockefeller Center for Christ’s sake. However, like I do ever year or so when I move to a new city and start to settle in, my dissatisfaction with the blandness of a comfortable life begins to catch up to me as if it were an illness I continually convince myself I am not afflicted by. I’ve never been able to put my finger on it, but I’ve simply never been remotely content with the activities of a secure lifestyle. Going out to expensive bars, dating reasonable girls, signing leases, planning vacations, even wiping down coffee tables or finding the necessity for tea pots and oven mits conjure up a degree of uneasiness for me. You know, it’s really been something, and I wouldn’t trade this past year for anything. But, no matter how hard I try, no matter how important upward mobility and professional achievement may appear in this city, I can’t get my mind off one single word - adventure.”

Enjoy your Sunday everyone, and I hope that all of you have extraordinary adventures of your own in the coming weeks.

*I fixed a few grammatical errors in the paragraph above for good measure.

For me, i must wait till i finish raising my kids in a few years before i have the oppertunity to try that for myself. Please continue this blog (if thats what you call this report). In case you qre wondering, there is a reasonable income oppertunity in doing these. You will find your way. Just be detirmined to succeed. Be happy and be happy with everyone. 4. Q. I saw you using an iphone on the rocketboom.com episode. Do you really have one? Is it helpful on your trip? Do you upload photos to the web from it? Do you use .mac to bring it together. Why cant i watch your video files on my iphone? Please write a tech piece and let us know any and all technology (use brand names and model numbers when possible). That is also an interesting part of this report as well. Thanks and have fun. Shain

  5. Hi shain.

I definitely will take down the link to your page when I get to a computer. (I’m writing this on my BlackBerry laying in a field aside the LA tarpits.). I had actually planned on doing a tech piece as an episode in a few days. Good timing! Anywho, I’ll tell you that right now that I am writing this with a BlackBerry 8830 world edition It’s a fantastic phone that has served me well on this trip.

Well, thanks for watching and best of luck to you and your family. :)
